This original internal cooling fan was removed from a Sony PlayStation 2 FAT SCPH-39004 and is suitable as a replacement for a defective, damaged or unusually noisy original fan.

The fan is located at the rear of the PS2 FAT and provides the airflow required to cool the console during operation. Heat generated by the motherboard, processors and other internal components is transferred through the cooling system and exhausted from the console by the fan.

Sony service documentation lists the corresponding DC fan for the European SCPH-39000 G-Chassis series under Sony part reference 1-763-480-31.

Function

The fan is an important part of the PS2 FAT cooling system.

During operation, the processors and other internal components generate heat. The cooling system transfers this heat away from the components, while the fan creates continuous airflow through the console housing and exhausts warm air.

The exact appearance, label and manufacturer of the original fan may therefore vary.

A specific Nidec or Minebea version cannot be selected.

Typical Fault Symptoms

Replacing the fan may be useful for problems such as:
